1992 GMC Typhoon #2344 Restoration

Here are the pics of my 92 Typhoon that I bought in January 2007.

Here is a re-cap of the story of my new 92 Typhoon that I found while searching for parts to finish my Tyclone.
I found the truck on eBay back on October and the guy wanted more tahn I wanted to pay. I kept his number and emailed him a few times throughout the next few months till he said that he would sell it for just what I wanted to spend!!! DONE! MINE!
So here is the WHOLE story on this truck...
The guy is a 66 year old man and is the original owner. He looked all over DFW to find one and one dealership had one. It was out on a test drive with a Dallas Cowboy. The Cowboy didnt buy it and the salesman called to say "Its here come get it now!"
The Ty was his daily driver. Just to the office and back. Never raced, or beaten much at all. One day it was in the dealer for service. One of the porters liked Typhoons and took it for a test drive. The truck had no oil in it and he blew the engine. The dealership replaced it with a new short block. About 100 miles later the check engine light came on. He parked it out behind his buddy's warehouse one day. Then the next time he went to start it, the truck cranked over but didnt fire. There it sat for almost 1 1/2 years.
It has 86,397 miles.
- Newer tires
- new shortblock
- rebuilt turbo
- new alternator
- newer exhaust
- new serpentine belt
- new radiator
- new heater core
- always used Mobile 1 oil
- new brakes
- Keyless entry/alarm
Comes with window sticker, all 4 glove box manuals, all original dealer paperwork, 3 factory service manuals, wheel lock key, etc
Here is the current status and damage assessment.
- It has badly worn paint and needs a re-paint. Some surface rust where paint is peeled off
- Front right cladding missing front tab and has a crack on the outside behind another tab
- back right corner cladding cracked and in need of replacement
- bumper pushed in in the rear (have a spare)
- dash is cracked in a few spots
- it was smoked in
- clear on rims is messed up a bit here and there. One has slight curbing
- cladding on left side is sun baked on the top of the rear pieces
- one small dent on door
- wiper and defront buttons to the left of gauges are faded a bit
- Needs battery
- needs rear window shocks
I am keeping it at my buddy's shop with my other trucks. he has a paint booth there and will help me paint the trucks. hehe i also have a wrecked Typhoon with running drivetrain in great shape... So I hope to be driving this one soon!

This is how it sat when I found it.

Re: GMC Typhoon #2344 Restoration

Im not quite done but I have come a long way. I have been blasteing EVERYTHING I can under the hood and repainting it all. Here are some progress shots.
This is the pass inner fender where you can spilled battery acid or something has eaten the paint away. The following picture is the completed inner fender.

I bought a new high flow water pump and painted it. You can also see the difference between the stock intake and the blasted/painted one.

A bunch of misc engine accessories getting done.

Re: GMC Typhoon #2344 Restoration

then came the engine. After painting the valve covers and lower intake I decided I needed to do something about the engine itself. So I sanded down the front of the block, heads and timing cover and repainted them all as well. Then started the reassembly process.

Re: GMC Typhoon #2344 Restoration

Here is a pic of before/after the engine cleaning....

While I was in there I installed a larger IC pump, rubber IC lines re-routed through the pass fender, and a 7" Derale intercooler fan.
I also installed a Volvo electric fan on the radiator, 160 degree thermostat, high flow water pump, K&N cone filter on the turbo inlet, and a small Odysseys PC680 battery.
